Have you ever heard about the Fortune Telling Fish? While some may go for a fortune cookie or even a fortune telling machine, there are those who will turn to the fortune teller fish. While this may all sound silly to you, it is not that different from any other fortune telling device you can play around with. Let us look a little bit closer in to what this miracle fish actually does and where you can get one.

What is the Fortune Teller Fish?

The Fortune Telling Fish is not a real fish that will swim around and predict your future. The Fortune Telling Fish is actually a small little red fish made out of cellophane. This type of material can often be found in food packaging. We are not sure when it first came out, but we have tracked the item back to the early 1900s. From old images we have gathered, it can be seen that the product was manufactured in Japan.

How Does The Fortune Teller Fish Work?

This small miracle fish is about two inches long, or approximately 5 cm, and comes in a small plastic or paper wrapper. The fish is made out of a thin plastic material and does often come in red color. The color may differ slightly depending if you are getting your hands on a vintage one or a new one. The front of the wrapper has the text “Fortune Teller” at the top, and “Miracle Fish” at the bottom. At the back of the wrapper you will get the instructions of how to use the Fortune Telling Fish.

Once you have opened the wrapper, take the fish and put it on your palm. Have it in your palm for a few seconds, and look at the fish to observe any movements. On the back of the wrapper you can then read what it means if the fish moves in a certain way. For example, if the miracle fish only moves the head, it indicates jealousy.

Does the Fortune Teller Fish Predict the Future?

We can not say that the Fortune Telling Fish will actually predict the future because of the statements given on the back of the paper or plastic wrapper. It seems like the fish is more indicating your mood…similar to what a mood ring does.
